Must Do Balance Exercises For Seniors

Doing balancing exercises as seniors age is a must for them as it lowers the risk of falls in seniors and also improves overall health. No matter how many health complications or mobility issues a senior has, you should try to make them do some balancing exercises to improve their balance, prevent falls, and increase safety.

Moreover, as the ability to balance drops significantly after 60 years, it becomes all the more crucial for seniors to try out these balance exercises. Consequently, let us learn about balance exercises for seniors.

Balance Exercises For Seniors

Maintaining good balance is essential for various daily activities like walking, climbing stairs, and more, as it helps prevent accidents and injuries caused by slips and falls. While making seniors do balancing exercises, make sure that seniors stand near a wall or a chair close by, they can look for support.

Here are some balancing exercises for seniors to improve their quality of life and gain strength.

Tightrope

Ask the seniors to extend their arms to their sides like a walker, and make them walk heel to toe down for five seconds. Ensure that seniors practice this every day.

Lunges

The next best balancing exercise for seniors is lunges. Ask seniors to put their hands on their hips and stand straight. Then step forward with one and bend the other one until your thigh is close to the floor. Hold this pose for 30 seconds and repeat this several times.

Tree pose

Tree pose is another balance exercise for seniors. Ask the seniors to stand with their feet shoulder-width apart and hold hands in a prayer pose. Once done with this, raise one leg and rest the sole of that foot on the inside of the other thigh. Doing this pose will improve the posture and also lower the risk of falls among seniors.

Leg lift

For this, the seniors need to open their legs wide apart, lift one of the knees, and extend the leg to the front. The seniors need to hold this pose for around 30 seconds and do several repetitions of this to get the desired result.
