How Seniors Can Stay Fit with Chronic Conditions?

Staying Fit with Chronic Conditions for Seniors

Seniors must stay active no matter what. But this can sound impossible when seniors are living with chronic conditions. Seniors aged 65 or above have more work in staying fit and getting fit but it is possible to stay fit even with chronic conditions.

This becomes all the easier when you hire home care providers and build a plan to make seniors healthy and fit.

Tips To Make Seniors Fit

Consult healthcare providers

The foremost thing to do is to speak to senior healthcare providers before deciding how to make seniors fit. This also gives seniors an idea of what their limits are and what kind of movements they can do. Doing so makes sure that everything sets out on the right foot from the beginning.

Have realistic goals

It’s crucial for seniors not to overexert themselves by attempting too much exercise too soon. Setting realistic and achievable goals is important for gradual health improvement and motivation. Jumping into intense exercise can not only increase the risk of falls or injuries but also discourage seniors from continuing their exercise routine before they begin to see its benefits.

Do strength training

As seniors age, they tend to lose muscle strength and tone very quickly, and due to this, it is crucial to incorporate exercises that build strength in seniors as much as possible. Including strength training in seniors’ schedules can improve their joint stability and are also good to begin with. Besides this, it improves functional movement in seniors and reduces the risk of injury.

Create personalized exercise plans

Every senior is different and so are their bodies and exercise. Consequently, it is crucial to have a unique and personalized exercise plan for seniors. It is better to include low-impact exercises. You can also include activities like chair exercises to enable seniors to build strength, flexibility, and mobility. The moment you notice an improvement in a senior’s health, you can change their plan accordingly.

Stay hydrated

As seniors begin to engage in more physical activity, they need to increase their water intake. If they’re not consuming enough water already, exercising without adequate hydration can heighten the risk of dehydration. Home care providers can play a key role in assisting seniors to remember to drink more water and consume hydrating foods, which can be beneficial for various health issues.
