Seniors with dementia can be at high risk in some areas of the home or outside. Consequently, it’s crucial to check garages, basements, or outside areas to modify them and make these safe for seniors with Alzheimer’s.

Here’s what you need to know to ensure safety for seniors at home with Alzheimer’s.

Tips To Increase Safety For Seniors With Alzheimer

Install fire extinguishers and smoke detectors in your home.
The hazardous areas of your house should be locked with child-proof locks.
Ask them to avoid using knives or appliances which can increase the risk.
Keep the furniture in the same place where it used to be to prevent falls.
If there are sharp corners on the furniture or cabinets, make sure to cover those with cushions.
All electrical outlets should have child-proof plugs.
Install safety alarms in the house.
Keep the car keys away from the seniors.
Remove the clutter or furniture which is no longer needed.

The best way to protect seniors with Alzheimer’s or dementia is to hire an in-home caregiver to look after them and help them with routine tasks. You can also get your home evaluation done to make the modifications in your house for seniors with dementia or Alzheimer.
