There are a range of bed exercises for seniors having mobility issues or others. Like other exercises, bed exercises also provide a host of benefits to seniors such as preventing bedsores, managing weight, robust immune system, enhancing mood, and improving flexibility.
Easy To Do Bed Exercises For Seniors
Bed exercises target various parts of the senior body be it with weights or without weights. Let us learn some of the easy-to-do bed exercises for seniors.
Bridge
The first exercise seniors should consider practicing is bridge. In this, seniors simply need to lie flat on their back with knees bent on the mattress. After this, seniors need to lift their hips as high as they can. Ask seniors to hold this pose for some time and then repeat it.
Hand exercises
Hand exercises are meant to improve the grip strength of seniors. In this, seniors need to hold an object and squeeze it for around 10-15 minutes and do its repetitions.
Neck stretches
The next must-do bed exercise for seniors includes neck stretches. Seniors need to lie on their back and bring their left ear towards the left shoulder until seniors feel a stretching sensation in their neck.
Leg lift
As the name indicates, seniors need to lie on their backs and lift one leg straight above the mattress. Once done, ask seniors to repeat this with the other leg too.
Knee-to-chest lift
Knee-to-chest lift exercise is meant to improve the lower body flexibility of seniors. Ask the seniors to lie on their backs and bring one knee up to their chest. Seniors can also use their hands to pull their knees closer to the chest to feel a stretching sensation.
Make sure to consult a senior doctor to confirm the intensity of each exercise. If the doctor says, you may also need to seek help from a physical therapist. If a senior complains of pain from doing these bed exercises, consult the doctor and stop making them do exercises.
