The incidence of injuries resulting from snow removal becomes obvious when the snow falls and accumulates. These injuries on seniors can range from strained backs, and broken bones to serious cuts.

The problem with the seniors is that they underestimate the time, strength, and stamina it requires for them to remove snow. There are times when you might not clear the snow from the path and seniors might feel compelled to do it on their own.

Shoveling snow is a rigorous activity even for those who exercise regularly and are physically fit. The seniors removing snow can witness an increased blood pressure and heart rate. Consequently, here are some tips to ensure senior’s safety while removing snow.

Dress right- The first thing to pay heed to is to make sure that the seniors have dressed right. Make sure that seniors have covered themselves when outside for a long time.

Never leave seniors alone- Even if seniors are insisting on removing snow, make sure not to leave them alone while doing so. Stay with them to help them in removing snow.

Have waterproof boots- Make seniors wear the right waterproof boots while removing snow to protect their feet from becoming cold. Moreover, these boots will also prevent seniors from slipping on snow.

Stay hydrated- Shoveling snow consumes plenty of energy and strength of seniors due to which, it is essential for ensuring that seniors drink water every 15 minutes.

Avoid caffeine- The moment before seniors shovel, try not to give them caffeine and nicotine as these act as stimulants due to which, the seniors can feel strain on the heart.
