A study conducted on dementia reveals that there’s a strong correlation between worsening vision and the risk of developing dementia in seniors. The risk of developing dementia in seniors was lower in people who had cataract surgery. The healthier and sound the vision, the more proper the brain functions.

Manage stress

Managing stress in seniors also lowers the chances of seniors developing dementia. Moreover, overall brain health also tends to improve with proper stress management. You can take the help of medications to manage stress, lower cortisol, and improve other aspects of a senior’s mental function.

Healthy diet

Eating a healthy diet tends to improve the brain health of seniors and also keeps dementia at bay. Make sure to give a mediterranean and mind diet to the seniors to keep them healthy and improve their cognitive training and blood pressure.

Keep seniors engaged

Another way to prevent seniors from dementia is to keep the seniors engaged. Keeping the seniors engaged can benefit the seniors in the short and long term. You can plan mentally challenging activities for seniors such as reading, playing board games, or learning something new. The study reveals that seniors who participated in such mental activities experience the least risk of dementia.

Treat senior’s depression

Seniors suffering from depression are also at high risk of developing dementia. The best way forward would be to relieve seniors from depression by giving them depression therapies such as psychotherapy or pharmacotherapy.

Physical activity

Making seniors do a little bit of physical activity in a day also goes a long way in helping seniors prevent dementia. Consequently, make sure to add physical activity to senior’s routines. The physical activity should be according to the senior’s health and mobility issues. Doing so will make the seniors feel accountable.

Hearing aids

Hearing loss among seniors is a potential indicator of the development of dementia. Hearing loss can persuade the seniors to withdraw and become socially isolated which in turn increases the risk of dementia. Consequently, the key is to treat hearing loss with hearing aids to reduce the risk of dementia.

Socially active

The biggest problem with seniors is that they become socially isolated and lonely, especially after the age of 50. Socially isolated seniors have higher chances of getting diagnosed with dementia compared to others. Consequently, try to ask seniors to maintain social relationships, and live longer and healthier.
