How Do Seniors Recover From Falls?

treeloo

Despite taking all the precautionary measures and installing alert devices in the home to prevent seniors from falling, it’s possible that seniors can experience a fall even then. Falls among seniors can lead to health conditions or cause severe injury.

Besides this, some seniors also develop a fear of moving after experiencing falls or injuries resulting from it. The key is to make seniors recover from those falls and make them healthy again.

Let’s take note of the tips stated below to make seniors recover and be healthy again.

Tips To Make Seniors Recover From Falls

  • The first thing to do is to make seniors calm and relax. Assure them that they’ll be okay.
  • Assess the situation before moving from there. See if seniors are feeling some pain or dizzy or need your help.
  • Ask the seniors to get up by taking the help of the nearby furniture or some object.
  • If seniors are finding it difficult to get up, ask them to roll onto one side and crawl.
  • Ask the seniors to turn around carefully to be able to sit.
  • Teach the seniors about using the electrical alert device if they get injured during a fall.
  • If seniors are unable to use the medical device, tell them to reach a safe place so that they can be heard easily when they call for help.
  • Take note of some symptoms in seniors after they had a fall such as sleepiness, headache, dizziness, pain, vision issues, or nausea.

Do not forget to inform senior physicians about the seniors’ fall. It is because their doctor must know about this and devise further treatment and medications for seniors.

No doubt that falls can be an upsetting experience as seniors tend to feel discouraged or helpless but this is also an indication to stay on top of the health concerns and can bring positive changes in seniors.

Staying active is crucial for seniors as it can lower the risk of falling. However, some seniors, out of fear, tend to limit their activities after experiencing a fall, which paradoxically increases their risk of falling again. This fear-driven reduction in activity can lead to a harmful cycle. Seniors struggling with a fear of falling should consult with healthcare or mental health professionals to address these concerns.

The falls among seniors are not inevitable as seniors age. By having a full fall prevention plan, seniors can prevent themselves from falls. Try to invest in some good safety alert systems for seniors to enhance their safety. Research the best options and consider getting the one for your home.
