Tips To Travel For Seniors With Urinary Incontinence In Palm Beach County

Seniors With Urinary Incontinence

Whether you are going by car, plane, or train, going on a vacation or celebrating some time with families and friends can involve some travel. Seniors aged 65 years or above in Palm Beach County can find it difficult to travel because of Urinary Incontinence.

There are times when travel can seem nearly impossible for seniors with urinary incontinence. Fortunately, careful planning and a realistic approach can help the seniors in Palm Beach County to avoid embarrassing situations.

So, here are some tips to ensure seniors travel safely even when dealing with urinary incontinence.

Travel Tips For Seniors With Urinary Incontinence In Palm Beach County

Map your route

When traveling by car, use freeway guides to plan regular stops at rest areas for bathroom breaks. Google Maps can show rest stops on your route. Remember to factor in these breaks to ensure timely arrival.

If flying, familiarize yourself with airport terminal layouts to easily find restrooms before boarding and after landing. Look for family or companion care facilities for added privacy or assistance with incontinence care.

Speak to a senior doctor

Before leaving for your trip, make sure to speak to the senior physician in Palm Beach County regarding the medications. There are plenty of medications available to address the overactive bladder among seniors in Palm Beach County.

Consequently, make sure to discuss this with your physician in advance of your departure date.

Pack properly

When packing, make sure to pack one handy bag containing the extra supplies such as some clothes, products, and a few plastic bags for soiled clothing. This can turn out to be a lifesaver if the airline loses the checked baggage.

Make sure to include plenty of incontinence products in your main packing bags so that the seniors do not face any difficulty.

Ask seniors to limit liquid intake

Cabin pressure changes and tight seat belts can strain a full bladder. Airplane bathrooms are small, and the seatbelt sign can be unpredictable. For short flights, consider limiting fluids, but consult a doctor before doing so on longer flights due to dehydration risks.

Avoid diuretics like soda and coffee; water is best. It may be helpful to inform a flight attendant about a loved one’s urinary incontinence before takeoff, especially in case of delays.

Dress properly

Make sure that seniors wear comfortable dresses during their travels. Also, ask the seniors to wear some sort of incontinence protection. Besides this, wearing a liner or a disposable brief is also a good idea especially if the trip is long.
