2chatiing

Nearly 33% of the seniors aged between 65 and 74 in Palm Beach County have hearing loss. Besides this, around 50% of the seniors aged 75 or above suffer from some level of deafness. But the crucial thing is that hearing loss among seniors in Palm Beach County mostly goes unnoticed.

Six out of 10 seniors experiencing moderate to severe hearing loss do not use hearing aids which in turn makes things worse. Hearing loss among seniors if ignored can impact personal relationships, physical health, and their quality of life.

Let us learn if hearing loss adversely affects the seniors’ independence in Palm Beach County or not.

Ways In Which Hearing Loss Impacts Seniors’ Independence In Palm Beach County

Hearing loss leads to poor relationships

The number of studies conducted on this reveals that hearing loss can negatively impact the personal relationships of seniors with others. Seniors in Palm Beach County can withdraw from the conversations because they are unable to understand what the person is saying. The seniors who do not wear hearing aids are often viewed as being confused and disoriented by their family members and others.

These side effects do not directly impact the senior’s independence but can lead seniors to depression. Depression among seniors can lead to other illnesses as well such as high blood pressure and heart disease.

Hearing loss can put seniors at risk

Hearing loss not only impacts the senior’s mental health but can also put seniors at risk of physical danger such as hampering seniors ability to listen to doctor’s instructions, not hearing intruders coming in the house at night, being unable to hear horns while driving and failing to take note of oncoming traffic.

Hearing loss affects the quality of life

Hearing loss among seniors in Palm Beach County can lead to difficulties in medication management, driving, and socializing, potentially diminishing their quality of life and independence. This condition can also increase the risk of other health issues and make seniors more vulnerable at home and when traveling. However, the utilization of hearing aids can often significantly improve their quality of life and enable them to maintain their independence.
