Heart Habits Seniors In Palm Beach County Need To Break

Bad Heart Habits Seniors Need to Break in Palm Beach County

The human heart serves as a vital pump, distributing blood to all organs in the body. The health of the heart is crucial for the optimal performance of all organs. Neglecting heart health can increase the risk of heart and circulation issues, including coronary heart disease, stroke, and vascular dementia.

According to the research conducted on this, heart disease is the biggest reason for death among senior men and women in Palm Beach County. With an estimated death every 36 seconds, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States.

Heart Habits To Avoid In Palm Beach County

Seniors adopting more heart-healthy behaviors are more likely to lower the risk of heart disease. Here are some bad heart habits stated below which seniors need to stop right now.

Depression or stress

While complete avoidance of stress may not be possible, it is manageable through practice. It is better to consider the signs of depression and stress. Prolonged stress can negatively impact the heart and other bodily systems. On the other hand, persistent dissatisfaction or depression resulting from isolation or poor social connections has been associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Research has also linked feelings of isolation to physical health problems, such as high blood pressure. If you are experiencing difficulties in this area, particularly due to socially isolating behaviors, it is important to find ways to safely interact with others for your well-being.

Avoid excess salty foods

Consuming excessive salty foods can burden the seniors’ cardiovascular system. The more salt seniors in Palm Beach County consume, the greater the risk of heart disease and stroke. Consequently, seniors need to take care while selecting convenience foods.

The best way to avoid too much salt is to cook food at home with fresh ingredients to regulate the salt going into the food.

Poor diet

Seniors’ cardiovascular health is directly affected by what they eat. Depending on the number of nutrients in a senior’s diet, it can either strengthen a senior’s heart or weaken it. Seniors’ diet in Palm Beach County should consist of a variety of tasty foods such as lean proteins, nuts, vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.

Some of the best foods regarded to better seniors’ heart health include olive oil, avocados, walnuts, and almonds.

Prolonged sitting

Prolonged sitting for 10 or more hours a day doubles the risk of cardiovascular disease compared to sitting for 5 hours or less. The cardiovascular system functions optimally when there is regular movement.

Sedentary behavior reduces blood flow and can lead to the buildup of fatty deposits in blood vessels. Engaging in activities like gardening, exercise, or daily walks for at least 30 minutes can help lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Inadequate sleep

If seniors in Palm Beach County do not get the adequate amount of sleep as recommended, then over time their heart health will deteriorate. Sleeping disorders and conditions among seniors can increase blood pressure and take a toll on their heart health.

Consequently, ask seniors in Palm Beach County to prioritize sleep and develop a nighttime routine to make their bodies ready for sleep.
